Ilio Barontini is one of the most original expressions of the italian musical landscape. He is considered a countercurrent pianist beacuse of his frequent monographic concert programs, chosen with the aim of investigating less known aspects of the composers who have played an important role in the history of music, or of pointing out characters of originality of the composers commonly told as minor.

Since 1972, he gives piano and harpsichord concerts, as a soloist or in various ensembles, in Italy and abroad (Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria). Recently, he has centred his chamber performances on playing in duo with his daughters Ilaria (flautist) and Caterina (pianist), at a single or at two pianos.

After being awarded of prestigious prizes in italian and international piano competitions during the years 1975-1978, he has recorded for italian and foreign radio-TV companies and he has made CDs for italian labels such as Sifare Publishing (Rome), Foné (Pisa), Florence International (Florence) and Il Bagatto-Musica (Carrara).

Professor of Piano and of Score Reading at the "Pietro Mascagni" Superior Institute of Musical Studies in Livorno (Italy) from 1972 to 2015, he is currently complimenting his concerts with other activities, that is to say composing and teaching.

In 2017-2018 he has recorded his piano works in duo with Caterina for Sifare Publishing, Rome: Back to Beat, a great opera in two parts for two pianos (recorded live in Teatro Goldoni, Livorno), before, and then his pieces for piano four hands (Bartókiana; Five Nursery Rhymes).

He is regularly giving masterclasses and courses for various Institutions and Musical Associations and is often called to take part in judging some of the most important piano competitions.
